Hello Athur,
You have a manual check for new version in
Help -> Check Internet Version.
HE checks automatically for a new version on startup, and brings you a popup if new version is available.
You also probably seen popup on first strat of HippoEDIT, which ask you do you want to check for new version or not. If you answer, and an option no show again. If you check it, and select YES, then new version would be checked silently and inform you, if you selec NO, no background checks would be done.
Background checks done on startup, but by default not every day, but every 20 days. Can be changed in hippoedit.config:
<VersionCheckInterval>20</VersionCheckInterval>Normally HE releases checks only for new releases published. Only if you have a beta, then check for beta would be done.
Current build number on server maintain by me manually, then I publish new version. For releases I do this always, for betas not. Only if I think update to new beta worth it. So, it is not necessary that you get an update notification

The ways to get information that new version is available:
Always working: check date of installation on download page in web site, if it newer then one you have in About box. New version published.
Working, but not always (I can forget to update forum): check topic for current beta version news.
Always working for releases, but rare for betas: use
Check Internet version from Help menu.
Best regards,
Alex.
