Insert Date Format Needs to be Brought to the Standards
« on: March 05, 2009, 04:11:30 pm »
Insert date formats do not look standard. Please see the accompanying picture.

First off:

I am using the US Locale. To me 05.03.2009 09:49 (dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm) format does not apply.
If the entry below (above the highlighted) supposed to represent the North American standard it needed to read: 03/05/2009 9:49 AM (w/o the leading 0 in front of the 9 because you do not use the Military Clock here).
The highlighted entry could be correct (it's the Military Clock), unfortunately not widely used (people may mistaken it for a 9 PM entry).
The same applies to the entry underneath (the full date).

The bottom entry is totally valid :)

So it is a double bug discovery ;D! But I did not know it supposed to be so much configurable, neat, or it is?

Hi Stefan,

yes, it crashes :) But I am using not strtime but strftime. And it does not have %t and %D in list of vars.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/fe06s4ak.aspx
Generally it is rather unsequre to give possibility to define format by user, tbut this is flexible :) And if it is crashes, it is always possible to revert settings. But I would try to catch the exception before HE crashes, if possible.

Arthur, you can add as much entries in InsertDateTime entry as you like, with any format. See MSDN link for list of supported vars.

You are right, I am too lazy to poke around and dig inside the config files!

I am more of a GUI guy, afterall I work mostly with Windows ;D!

Am I bad or perhaps (OK I dare to ask) it is possible to add that setting somewhere into the Tools->Options...?

Hello Arthur,

changing this in xml would take you 2 minutes.
For me to create this -> minimum 3 hours. + everybody would get in interface one more option, which would use maximim 1% of users.

What do you think, shell I do this ;) ?

Yes, this is acceptable.

@Arthur, which formats is standard for US/Canada regions?
There is no problem to add more formats in installed def_spec.xml.

Please see the picture. Please note the leading 0 is not used for AM/PM formats.

Hi Arthur,
i doesn't enjoy to add all possiblest formats to "Insert Date/Time" -menu.

You may find > HERE (FAQs: How to modify paste-format of "Edit >> Insert Date/Time") < an HowTo to do this yourself.

If you get trouble by doing this you may ask again for help to add an reasonable sub-set of this formats.

HTH?

That's good enough, thank you, I was thinking when you are using commercial software you normally do not spend time for tackling little things - you have already made the investment into somebody's time who put the shortcuts in for you.
Thankfully HE is flexible enough, on the positive side.

Dear Arthur,

i don't believe that others, even if you pay them, could do all things for all costumers,
but if they give one the tools/possibility at hand to help one at its own its enough for _me_.
And,... hey!... this is version 1.4, .... not 14.0  ........... stay tuned what will happens in future :D
