Some minor bugs
« on: April 07, 2010, 07:34:47 pm »
Hi,

I have a few bugs that I want to mention. I have fastly checked the first page, but you can ignore if already mentioned.

1) First of all, although I made page width 115 and marked word wrap by page width, some lines can go beyond width line. And when I draw another indentation line from the ruler, page goes to end everytime. I mean everytime I clicked on the ruler the page goes to end. Attachment 1.

2) Although I make the search in the document and everywhere option is selected, it searches down from the position of the cursor everytime.

3)I created a code template and gave the shortcut CTRL + <, it was working but suddenly it began to give "the key combination is not a command" error. I tried to change the shortcut but it still gives the same error.

You can see the code template and shortcut in the asp syntax I just sent you Alex.

Thanks..

Hi Theno,

Quote
1) First of all, although I made page width 115 and marked word wrap by page width, some lines can go beyond width line.
In new beta 1.48 this has been fixed. Reason is that wrap is done not by column count but char count (tab is 4 columns but only one char fex).

Quote
And when I draw another indentation line from the ruler, page goes to end everytime. I mean everytime I clicked on the ruler the page goes to end. Attachment 1.
I think this is work as designed. Editor does null-width column selection for complete document height. And the cursor is set to the end of selection. (it can be also beginning but then it will jump to start) .

Quote
2) Although I make the search in the document and everywhere option is selected, it searches down from the position of the cursor everytime.
As far as I remember, there is no everywhere option ;) But if will check Wrap Search it should help.

3)I created a code template and gave the shortcut CTRL + <, it was working but suddenly it began to give "the key combination is not a command" error. I tried to change the shortcut but it still gives the same error.
< is extended key and depends from keyboard layout. If you have more than English please check which you have used. I can not check this without having same keyboard layout as you (me shortcut was shown as Ctrl+\ with English layout)

I have got your files and have been replied already.

I tried this with new beta and the problem continues, you can see this too by increasing tab size.

But according to me this is not efficient since you lost your line when you clicked on the ruler. If you didn't check the line number. You have to search where you were before. And doing this everytime you changed the width can be annoying a bit, especially if you have nearly a thousand lines:)

You can see what I am talking about in the attachment ;) But wrap searched worked for me although the word I was searching wasn't on wrapped line. I didn't get the point...

It is the key between left shift and Z on my keyboard. It writes < when you press alone, writes > when you press with shift and writes | (not i) when you pressed with Alt Gr.

I couldn't find time to check the files yet but I will soon.

Thanks...

Yes. You are right. I can also reproduce this. Probably was not downported correctly... Will be fixed.

I have not understood what you meant under everytime you changed the width but maybe yes, will be more comfortable if screen will not jump. Just this is not standard that cursor is position not on the start/end of the selection. I will think about it.

From your screenshot I see that flag "Wrap Search" i not set. If it is not set editor searches form current position till end/start of the document (depends on search direction). If you check Search Only In drop down contents purpose of it will be more clear (for example you can skip comments from search scope).
"Wrap Search" has nothing to do with wrapped lines :)

What I meant to physical layout. Do you have more then one language installed? Can you type symbols other when English? If you have more than one language installed (keyboard layout) and switch to Turkish or Russian for example, pressing same key will not produce same symbol.

I understood what you mean I just put the screenshot to show you the "everywhere" option I mentioned before. But I still couldn't get why "everywhere" doesn't search in everywhere :) It must be enough according to me to search whole document because I don't know what "wrap search" mean...

I am using Turkish layout already. That key combination was taken on Turkish layout. I also tried in English layout too. That key gives Ctrl + \ this time and it still doesn't work. I tried to assign several different keys too but none have worked yet. They were working before, I don't know why not now.

I also find another bug I think and this is important. I uninstalled the editor and reinstalled it but this time for all users. I launched the app after install by checking box in the installer I did some changes on settings "like remember last open directory" and then I close and re-open it everything was ok and made some other changes too. Next time I open the editor I realized that my last changes that I did on second use were gone. I did change that settings and but they are not saved anymore. The changes after the first time used not saved on computer. Then I uninstalled it and re-installed just for current user and everything was ok...

:) I was not able to find better name for explaining that all text styles are evaluated and nobody has complain :) Naming it All Styles or Whole document will also lead to confusion.
But, I hope, you got that you need to set "Wrap Search" flag :) Also I will enable it by default (but only for fresh installation).

Hmm... I have done the test with Ctrl + < and it is working. If language active when creating shortcut equal to one which is active when I call template in document (in my case it was done with German). I can ask you to send me your configuration files, but think this would not help. Only thing I can suggest is to do the same carefully assign it and then use with same language. Or just do not use such shortcuts, which changes between languages :)

So, general message from here: settings are not saved when HE installed for All Users (maybe once permission problem). Which OS you use and do you have admin rights?
But I will also test this.

Ok I got the message :)

I realized the problem. Although that code template was created under the ASP syntax it doesn't work inside an ASP block on the code page. But it works inside JS or HTML codes with the same shortcut. If I create it under VB syntax, code template with same shotcut works inside ASP block but doesn't work inside JS or HTML this time. At last I created it under default syntax and now it works in everywhere. Is this the way code templates supposed to work?

Win 7 Pro 64-bit and yes I have the admin rights.

Thanks...

Yes, templates are syntax dependent. So you can have same shortcut / key which expands in deferent templates depending of where you are in the document now.
Same logic works for most functions in HE - everything is syntax dependent (tools are also syntax dependent but they selected based on main document language).

Ah.. Ok, than can be... Probably I should not allow All Users in Win 7 x64 (the installation of user folder in Program Files also does not work there even for admins).

Hi Alex,

Thanks for the replies but this time I lost my changed line indicators. Also they are selected on every syntax, editor doesn't show changed lines. Did I do something wrong?

I think you have done document specific change.

Everything that is changed through main menu View -> Editor applied only to current file and stored between sessions.
These settings overwrite default settings for syntax.

Just enable them back from View menu for file where it is missing.

Another, not probable reason, can be that you have removed "changed" style from def_spec.xml file.

No changed lines already defined and opened in the syntaxes but doesn't work now. Anyway, you can check it when I send the files to you.

Thanks again...

Have you checked also this: ?

Have you checked the current syntax settings?

Check you_syntax_user.xml also. It contains syntax dependent settings (they are saved there).

Yes Alex, I checked all the syntaxes that ASP inherits and everything is ok but my changed line indicators gone and never came back. I miss them :)

I will reinstall HE and look if this solves the problem.

Thanks...
