Undesired lock on folder
« on: December 15, 2014, 12:20:18 pm »
Hi Alex,

in the following scenario, HippoEdit keeps an undesired lock on a folder:

1. Disable the option 'Keep files locked while editing them' in HippoEdit.
2. Create a directory.
3. Copy a text file into the directory.
4. Open the text file in HippoEdit.
5. Close the text file in HippoEdit, but keep HippoEdit running.
6. Delete the file.

After these five steps, the directory cannot be deleted although it is empty. Windows Explorer says: "The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program. Close the folder or file and try again." The folder can only be deleted after closing HippoEdit.

Best regards,
Andreas

Hi Andreas,

I am afraid this is known bug, which is caused by bug in Windows File Open Dialog API...
Try the same but open file with File Explorer or recent menu. If it will work correctly, it is that one.

I have even somewhen created test project using only File Open dialog, and got same behaviour.
Unfortunately here I can not do too much.

BR, Alex.

Hi Alex,

yes, with File Explorer it does work correctly.

It's not a big problem. I can live with it. I only wonder why this problem does not occur with other editors, e.g. EditPad Pro or EmEditor.

Best regards,
Andreas

Probably they use modern File Open dialog, but not the old one HE uses (at least EmEditor does).
I do not want to switch to new one, while I had rather big modifications for it done, which are not so easy for new dialog + I will need OS depending coding, while new dialog comes only with Vista.
