Getting auto-generated bug reports with no e-mail client
« on: May 07, 2010, 12:48:11 pm »
Hi.

I'd really appreciate if there were an easy way to get the auto-generated bug report (I mean the one one can send using this http://i42.tinypic.com/erex6e.png form) without having any e-mail client configured (and send it as an e-mail attachment using a common web interface).
Similarly, I'd invite a possibility to get the auto-generated system-description accessible via Help/Report Bug without having an email client set and send it "manually".

Regards,
c.

Hi cichlasoma,

Hm, and how?
In newest HE versions, of you try to send bug report with Help->Bug Report you should get a message that there is no default mail client installed. At least.
In case of the Crash Report, first screenshot, You should also get a message asking you to attach and send crash report manually, in case if program can not open mail client automatically.

Can you please explain what do you mean?
Send it at all without mail client, connecting to some service in the internet? Or open some web form in HippoEDIT web site?
Mail way most transparent for the user. Mail is not send automatically, can be saved as draft, user has all standard tools for message editing...

Best regards,
Alex.

alex, I use no mail clent (like Outlook express or Thunderbird). I simply send and read e-mails in the web interface of my mail accont provider (like www.gmail.com).
What I'm requesting is that HE would save the generated reports to the disc and let the user to send it his way.
As I wanted to send you the crash report (on the crash on Project/Properties/OK), it was no easy for me to get the files I sent in the end. I had to configure Outlook express, I didn't manage to make it working, but at least I could extract the atteched files from the generated mail then, zipped it again, and attached it to the mail sent vie web interface.

Hm... Normally it was a message box, asking to attach file hippoedit.zip with path if sending failed...
But maybe this has been changed when check for default client was added. I will check this.

Yes, that would be what I am requesting...
(Currently, an Outlook configuration is started automatically and untill it's not completed successfuly, you get no access to hippoedit.zip.)

EDIT: Now, by searching the disc for "hippoedit.zip", I found it is created in Local settings/Temp. But HE gives no information on that.

Similarly, when using Help/Report bug, the generated text is not accessible without an email client, I don't know how to get it.
