Icons in File Explorer and Save/Open Dialog Enhancements
« on: January 05, 2010, 08:04:32 pm »
Please let me propose two enhancements:

1) Allow icons on the File Explorer's toolbar to float. This is because if I keep it narrow to maximize the real estate of my monitor dedicated to a file and I need to reach out to Favorites icon which is behind I need to each time resize the File Explorer to click it back and forth; and

2) Add or replace the "Recent Folders" text box to Favorites (you may come with a better idea I think), but the main objective is to be able to access my favourite directory from the Save/Open dialog.

Thank You

Thanks Stefan,
just want to answer this.
In addition, from 1.50 I have also removed Recent Folders combo, and moved its content into Favorite menu you have mentioned.  I mean recent folders are still collected but shown in Favorites menu.

About point 1. I see the problem, but making mini tool panel float-able is not standard and also such way destroy contextual connection between File Explorer and tool panel. Better way, I think will be to show chevron with menu if tool panel is truncated. I will add this to my todo list.

Thanks for suggestions.

Best regards,
Alex.

How this will look? I am afraid or at least this sounds confusing about what I expected to see.

Re #1: instead of floating it could be a pull-down of some sort I think similar to what MS Word has for extra menu items.

This is exactly what I mean. This is called chevron in MS terms.

Good,
now one more request for the File Expl: what do you think about adding the ability to resize the height of the two windows of the File Explorer by dragging the horizontal bar which separates them?

The idea is good.
I have already started once to implement this but have not enough time to finish.
Maybe will add this some when in 1.5x with all the rest GUI stuff need to be done.
It is in my todo.
