Tools parameter: Output To New Document
« on: October 22, 2009, 01:42:52 pm »
I use 'Tools' to do an unique sort with "sort (GNU coreutils) 5.3.0". (http://forum.hippoedit.com/index.php/topic,143.0.html)

Now, in Output panel, i have found an new context menu item "Copy to New Document". Thank you for that!

Question:
While this is very nice i want to ask to put an checkbox in Tools menu
like "[ ]To New Tab" ,  right under "[ ] Capture output".

Which is greyed out till "[X] Capture output" is checked.

That way i would save an step and doesn't need to have Output panel stay open.

I think this is an fine improvement till you have implemented "overwrite document or selected with output".
And also IF you would have this implemented, i think my suggestion is after them still from use.

What do you think?

I see Prompt command line also on this screen shot ;)

Yes, the idea I fine and I have this in plans. Just it is not so easy to have a redirect to a new document (just I mean it is not a simple reuse).
I would implement this feature with other parameters I have planned for output as:
   - Discard (to replace Capture output and default)
   - Output Panel
   - Replace Selection
   - Replace Document
   - Replace Clipboard
   - Insert Before Selection
   - Insert After Selection
   - Show as a ToolTip
   - Create new document

Probably for this I would extend Output Pattern dialog and rename it to Advanced. To place there rare used / expert flags.

I would try to add this 1.50.
