Couple Questions
« on: May 28, 2009, 07:59:45 pm »
Still trying out HE, but I had a couple of questions before I commit to it...

1) Is there a way to turn off the auto-close braces? I've turned off all code completion and it still does it. Hate that. :/

2) What format does HE paste to the clipboard? When pasting into OE I get a bunch of whitespace. This is from 1252 plain text files...

3) I fixed this by disabling 'allow multiple instances', but if you do a right click -> send to HE on a file, it creates a seperate process even if it uses the same window. This screws up the per-process keyboard settings. For me, I had HE set to dvorak, and every time I sent a new file to HE I'd have to reset it.

4) Is there a way to turn off the huge dialogs that show up when holding ctrl/shift?

5) More of a feature request, but a Visual Assist style Open File In Workspace (or curdir, recently opened, etc) would be sweet. :)

6) Is there any methodology to the colors for tabs or is it random?

7) When dragging a file on to an open read only file, it is refused - you have to drag to the toolbar. Sounds minor but surprisingly annoying.

Thanks! Pretty neat editor so far. Love the ctrl-tab dialog. That dialog is basically the only reason why I use visual studio 2k5 over 2k3 for development...

Hi soal, welcome to the forum.
Alex, the developer, is out of the house till 02.06.

I will try to answer one or another question.

1) Is there a way to turn off the auto-close braces? I've turned off all code completion and it still does it. Hate that. :/

Under "Tools > Options... > Formating > Smart Helpers" you find  "[ ] Auto-Brackets" to disable this option.

BTW, "[ ] Surround Selection on ({["  is an another nice feature,
it surrounds selected text by open&close brackets by pressing the open bracket keys

2) What format does HE paste to the clipboard? When pasting into OE I get a bunch of whitespace.
This is from 1252 plain text files...
HE feeds  the clipboard with several formats (see picture below)
I think it's  on the other apps (here OE) to chose the right format?

>a bunch of whitespace
Y o u  m e a n  e v e r y   char is separated by an b l a n k ?

4) Is there a way to turn off the huge dialogs that show up when holding ctrl/shift?

Please see if  >this< helps you.

6) Is there any methodology to the colors for tabs or is it random?

>colors for tabs
What do you mean please?

1) Gah, don't know how I missed that. And the surround selection feature is also now disabled. :)

2) The beginning of the text has excess whitespace. So there will be a couple of whitespace lines inserted before the text shows up. The text itself seems okay?

6) The tab color at the top of the app, for each file. I was just curious what controlled the color it pics.

Hello soal,

welcome.

2) Which kind of line breaks used in your document? Please send me example of exported document and original then I can tell you what is wrong. As far as I know OE would try to use HTML format (in this case you would see syntax highlighting), and maybe it does not handle not CRLF formats correclty.

3) I think reason is workspace settings. If workspace of open HE instance different from workspace of new instance it would not be reused. It is by design. Try to set: Tools->Options->General->Workspaces->Viewer to default.

5) I understand what you mean. Maybe would come later, when plugins support would be added as one of the side panels. You can check this idea, which is planned. It is rather similar.

6) You mean tab colors in 2003 theme as far as I understood. In XP theme colors are not used for tabs. Colors are random (sequentional) I had plans to remove them at all but left. Here is idea which planned for coloring of tabs. Maybe would come with 1.5x.

7) Try 1.43 beta, this is already fixed. Now you can drop file to read-only file.

Thanks ;) It is even better, you can search in it. Try to type a part of file name, keeping Ctrl pressed ;)

Best regards,
Alex.

2) To reproduce, I just open a new doc with ctrl-n, type a single word, hit ctrl-a to select all, ctrl-c to copy. When pasting in to OE it adds extra lines in front. I've tried it with several other client and they work fine. I suspect OE is doing something stupid.

3) I just use a single instance so I don't encounter it anymore, but I just figured you should know about it.

6) Yeah it was 2003 style. I have no problems with the coloring and actually kinda like it, I was just curious as I ended up with a bunch of adjacent tabs with the same color.

Ah, I just tried it in Thunderbird and also got some space. Not as much, but there's an additional line. The dropdown lists it as "Body Text", the actual text as "Preformat", and then another blank line after as more "Body Text".

2) Yes, I have reproduced this... Do not have OE but was possible with mail client built-in in Opera. Would try to solve in next beta. But the problem partially is on Opera side. They read HTML always! Even when message composed in Plain Text, and then try to convert HTML to plaint text by their own. And do this some how wrong. Try to paste to HTML format mail.

3) You should get another instance open even in single instance mode, if another workspace used.
