Ctrl+Up/Down scroll, caret leaves on screen
« on: February 25, 2013, 10:32:25 PM »
Notepad++ and Pspad have other bevaiour of Ctrl+Up/Ctrl+Down command. When scrolling, caret leaves on screen, and doesn't leave on previous (before 1st Ctrl+Up/Down) position. HE: caret leaves on previous position. Maybe better to make like in Pspad?

And in Sublime Text and in EmEditor it is like in HippoEDIT ;)
Who is right? I like as it is now.

P.S: And generally, in Notepad++ 6.3 Ctr+Up/Down behaves same way as in HippoEDIT - window scrolls, but position stays the same... Maybe I got the point wrong?

N++. make window height 20 lines. enter 50 lines file. put position on last line, hold Ctrl+Up. caret stays on screen, not on LAST line. like HE?

Ok, I see. It also works same in Sublime: the until cursor is inside visible area, its postion not updated with Ctrl+Up/Down but as far as it goes out of visible scope, it moved to last/first visble line.
I see the behaviour, but do not understand benefits of it.

Can you explain, why this is better in compare with current lgoci in HippoEDIT?

BR, Alex.

Why this is better? coz many users are used to it when scrolling big texts with Ctrl+Up/Down

I am not used to it, so I do not know what are the benefits.
If you want me to implement it, please describe, at least, in details why this helps during scrolling of big texts.

I can tell only that i'm used to it. when i scroll with Ctl+Up/Down, i need to quickly move caret to found position, with keybord. and N++ behavoir helps with it. if caret left far, than keyboard can't quickly move caret to found pos.
i can live without it.

Thanks, for explanation ;) And why you do not use normal Up/Down without Ctrl modifier?
From my understanding, idea of Ctrl-Up/Down scrolling was, that you can check some other code, without losing you current cursor position to quickly jump back.
