What is primary target in HippoEDIT developing process?
« on: February 06, 2012, 09:44:28 AM »
Convenience?
Unique functionality?
Realization of usual functions?
Execution of the user desires?
Reliability and robustness?
Polishing of existing functions?
Refactoring and debugging?

I understand, any developer pursues all these aims. But what of them have got highest priority?

Comparing the program to the car what you want to produce: Hammer, Cadillac, Volvo or, unbelievably, DeLorian?

Hi oldman,

welcome on forum ;)

the question is not simple and it is difficult to select single option from provided.
I have found partial answer to it in my old posts (was sure it exist, but it took time to find it):
http://forum.hippoedit.com/feature-requests-and-suggestions/lock-tab-reuse-tab-open-all-files-read-only/msg4435/#msg4435

In general:
- keep it simple (as far as it is possible), but customizable. HE is not a notepad but more an source code viewer/editor for programmers.
- keep it fast and relatively small
- care about usability
- bring the innovation: there are a lot of cool ideas in area of text editors that can be implemented. Despite the application area is one of the oldest in the market.
- keep it syntax independent, but create syntax dependent extension with help of scripts and plugins.

BR, Alex.
