So, HippoEDIT is dead?

It appears that HippoEdit is dead. I [luckily] got it from giveawayoftheday.com a long time ago when they had it for free. It appears that it has not been updated since then. In fact, the build date on version 1.49 is 11/9/2010 (in the about box). Seems like it is dead.

Is there a replacement product that the developers have moved on to?

Thanks for any info.

Arthur

Hello mrzeld,

HippoEdit is very much live and kicking :-)

My version is 1.50.778

The site you took it from is not letting upgrades in. This is what I remember is the condition of GiveAwayofTheDay.

If you are ready to pay (and I must say it is a small fee for so much power) you can download a new one; after all HippoEdit received many new features since that release.

i understand that the version i have cannot be upgraded. i based my "dead" statement on the hippoedit website. There is no news of a version beyond 1.49. the web pages themselves look like they haven't been updated in years. i did find after searching the forums (which are pretty dormant except for a few sections) that there is a 1.5 beta version. it seems this has been ongoing for more than two years though. is it really worth $40 to buy a beta version that has been going for years now with updates every so often? i could understand if maybe they were working on a version 2.0 rewrite with many new features. but a version 1.5 that has taken this long is not a good sign that i should spend $40 on it (the beta thread says it should not be used in a production environment after all).

Hello mrzeld,

first of welcome on forum.

If you are looking, it is rather easy to find information about 1.50 and see the progress of the development:
http://forum.hippoedit.com/beta-version-test/alpha-1-50/

1.50 in compare to 1.4x is MAJOR update, while 1.41-49 were minor updates. I do not care about version naming and running to get higher major version each month (as Firefox or Chrome etc). I think, for the user real changes are more important as version number. 1.50 updated now rather regular (every 2-3 weeks), while 1.49 mostly not (previously bug fix builds were published often). 1.49 is frozen, because 1.50 is already stable enough and close to release to not spend time on 1.49.

And decision about paying or not, is on your side. If you believe in the product and want to help in future development: you pay or help in another way. If you do not believe, use another product or wait for new free action ;)

Alex, it might help people to realize that development is continuing by simply just updating the copyright on the web pages.

Hope this helps!

Never thought about this. Done. It was easy ;)
