Blinking cursor during remote desktop connection

Hi Alex,

this is quite a special request, i.e. there are might not be many other users interested in it. Anyway, if it's not too much work, I would be grateful if you could implement it.

I'm often using HippoEdit on a remote Windows PC via Remote Desktop Connection. I would like to have a blinking cursor in that environment. Currently it's not blinking. The reason seems to be that blinking is disabled by Microsoft's Remote Desktop implementation in order to save bandwidth. However, I don't care about that small bandwidth gain, I want a blinking cursor for better usability.

I found another editor which supports this: EditPad Pro. Under this link you can find more information. The reason why EditPad Pro's cursor is blinking during remote connections seems to be that it doesn't use the standard Windows cursor but a different implementation with some advanced features.

Best regards,
Andreas

I have tried that. It does work for Microsoft Office, i.e. with the described registry change, the cursor in Microsoft Word and Outlook does blink. But unfortunately, the cursor in HippoEdit still doesn't blink.

Hi Andreas,

actually I have also tried that with HippoEDIT before posting on Terminal server. And it has an effect. I have checked that without the registry cursor does not blink in Notepad + HippoEDIT, but after applying of the setting had worked as in Notepad as in HippoEDIT.

So, I do not know why that is not the case on your side... Of course I am using the system caret for drawing cursor, that is controlled by OS. And I see that as nice, that behavior in HE is in sync with the rest of standard app running in terminal server session.

That can be, that I will move to own drawn caret, for supporting multi cursor possibilities, but not in next months. Than I can evaluate option for displaying blinking cursor always. But I do not see simple way to change the behavior in current state.

I have tried it again, and now it does work for me too. I have a blinking cursor in HippoEdit during remote desktop connection! I'm not sure why it didn't work the first time. Maybe after applying the registry change, you must log off from the remote PC and then log on again. That's the only difference I'm aware of between my first try and my second try. Anyway: Problem solved! Thank you very much for your effort.

I agree.
