Further to my question above I have an idea now:
how about adding also an option to have HippoEdit capable of restoring from crash similar to what MS Word has?
That can come up handy in case you have done a lot of changes in a document and loose your session say to a power outage.
Perhaps this will require some memory to be dumped in the event of OS or HippoEdit crash.

I have something like this it in my to do.
But this is different from AutoSave on deactivate, because on auto save user wants to have exactly that file saved to use it by some another application.

The idea you have meant implemented in another way. The MS Word stores temp copies of the modified document every 5 minutes, for example, but with different file name. The temp copy is deleted every time you have successfully stored the document.
If between ordinal save and temp save crash occur or power off, next start MW Word checks for existing temp files and ask you for restore. I think this is usefull feture which can make users feel more safe, but  I just have no time till now to implement this.

Thanks a lot for suggestion!
