I downloaded the latest beta and the editor won't open on my machine (Win8.1 Pro).  When I reinstall v1.x, it tells me that the crash may have been fixed in the latest version, but it still won't open.

HippoEdit v2.00.64 x64 crashes on startup (after updating it).
I attached the error log and the crashdump.

alex

That is FTPExplorer. Try to delete the ftpexplorer.dll.
But there are dozen of other errors too :/

Ok, I have reverted back to an older version.
I'll wait for bug fixes.

Where are the crash dump and error log files located?  I can try to install again to see if my error is also due to ftpexplorer...

alex

Sorry for so long delay with reply. I had a good vacation :)
Probably you have found them already by yourself ;)

The dump and errorlog are stored in %APPDATA%\HippoEDIT

ESET Internet Security flags and deletes both x86 and x64 downloads of HippoEDIT version 2.00 Beta.
No problem with the current downloads for version 1.61.
Log file from version 2.00 download includes following information:

Hi Stew,

I think it is a false positive or ESET has mixed the HippoEDIT with something else...
Of course, I have not integrated something in.

Just checked the installer on VirusTotal (including ESET) and no issues were found:

Thanks for checking. I tried again with the same result. The VirusTotal link you sent lists ESET in relation to EonScope, which is an unrelated product.

The HippoEDIT 2.00 downloads pass on Avira and Kaspersky online scanners, so I am happy to accept that they are safe.

Thanks for the new version!

v2.00.65

Unfortunately, there appears to be a regression in the hex editor again.
I updated to v2.00.65 and opened a *.ods file and now I cannot switch to hex mode anymore (View in hex mode is grayed out).

I hope you can fix this.

alex

Hello Sander,

is it for any kind of file extension or only for *.ods files?
*.ods files are registered for MS Office files (OpenDocument Spreadsheet), and I assume that MS Office file view is automatically used for opening files in HE.

I don't know. Now I can't even start up anymore (see crash dump).

alex

That is a known bug in ftpexplorer. But I can not see the exact issue, while do not have firring debug information any more :/
To fix, just delete file ftpexplorer.dll from the %HippoEDIT%\plugins folder.
