It takes quite a while for HE (Beta) to start

With the few most recent HE betas (or due to the fact I modified the def_spec.xml) I noticed HE now starts/loads much slower.

Is that true for others too I am curious?

Hi Arthur,

I do not remember any changes that can influence speed of loading.
But take into account that every first start after reinstall, HE does complete parse of all syntax schemes installed. So first start can be rather slow. But then subsequent calls should be fast.
Also, of course, depends from size of the open project and amount of open files.

Best regards,
Alex.

Seven files are open, and it starts slow every time. Hmm

alex

Do you have File Explorer open and Follow Active file flag active?

How long does HE starts?
I have not notice any significant change in speed.

Is speed same without files open?
Which kind of files are open?

The only way to check I have: send me your complete HE folder + files open.

I will do more benchmarking and report. Thank you Alex.

The fewer documents (sql, txt and vbs) I have the sooner it comes up. But the difference is minimal. Even with one document it comes in about 3-5 sec. Well, I do a repeat close-start it remains cached so it is faster coming back, but if I start anew it takes like 5 sec to come.

In my case it is second or less... (with 3-4 files open)
Is this is only with HippoEDIT or for other problems is same?
Maybe you have some virus checker running?
One more difference from previous versions - new MFC libraries. But here I can do nothing. In my case (but on XP) I do not have a problem with new MFC dlls.
Maybe we need to get some more feedback from other users to see is this is HE problem or something with your system or Vista related.

But in any case send me your data files + workspace + hippoedit.config I would check if everything is correct.

Best regards,
Alex.

Hello,

I think I found what is causing this, it is the font.
I have narrowed that down to me using font "Anonymous" for certain type of files, and HE happens to load it slower than other.
Rather, I want to say, it is not actually HE's issue, but the fond itself.
