Also tried on 1.45 and 1.46 versions and on other computers with Win XP and Windows 7.

It's just option "Allow multiple instances" doesn't work properly for me. I have it unchecked and I have assigned HippoEDIT as external editor in Total Commander and every time i press F4 on some file it opens with new instance of HE. Am i doing something wrong or is it bug?

On Windows 7 when dragging new file over HE icon on quickstart bar it still open this file within new HE instance.

PS. Its my first post and i would like to thank you for the best editor (not IDE) for php/js/html/css i've tested so far and i really tested a lot of em Thank you.

I have read your reply to Torann's post and I tried this method but it still doesn't work on any of computers i have in work/home.
I tried every possible combination of workspace settings:

Default: default
Viewer: default
--
Default: viewer
Viewer: viewer
--

Viewer: default

Default: default
Viewer: viewer

With HE closed or not, hitting F4 in Total Commander (or draging some file over HE icon on quickstart bar) every file still opens with new HE instance. Have no idea how to solve this

OK, I will check. Maybe I will need your hippoedit settings for checking of options you have.
Can you send them to supportbox at hippoedit com?
(I mean here hippoedit.config + \workspaces + \data from HippoEDIT user folder) - added

Another exotic reason that can be: have you used some UPX (or any other executable compressor) to compress hippoedit.exe?

Installed TC 7.5, assign HippoEDIT as External editor for F4. HippoEDIT 1.48.675 + your data files.

I cannot reproduce the bug :/ In all cases HE uses same window for opening file, just open new tabs.
So, probably, if HE was not compressed, there are some differences of your system from mine...
Or there are differences of how TC calls HE.

So, answer more questions:
- if you open HE standalone, are new instances are created or same reused?
- if you open documents from Windows Explorer with shell Context Menu Open in HippoEDIT (with icon) , is one instance of HE open?
- if you register some file type to be open in HE (with HippoEDIT main menu, File Associations) is one instance of HE open?
- just to be sure about compressor, what is the size of your hippoedit.exe

An another question would be if you use -by any change- an TC Plugin as F4 replacement?
Like "ChoiceEditor" or "Open File shell". (If you are unsure, you may want to send your WINCMD.INI as well)

After reading that I thought that maybe I should try that version too. I have downloaded it, set up workspaces  and.. cha-ching! everything works like a charm!
